Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Potential Roster

From the Mind of Brett Wall

Hello and welcome all who dare enter this blog post...Nah, I’m just kidding, it’s pretty chill here. I want to start off with a disclaimer. The Cheat Code Cafe is not an actual cafe, it’s actually a blog where I write about video games. I know saying “video games” is a very broad topic, so let me narrow it down. I will be discussing games that I have played or games that will be coming out. Sometimes it may be a review, sometimes it may be me making the game better with a few ideas, or maybe it’s both. It may also be something entirely different, but the topic will always be *VIDEO GAMES.*

Today we will be discussing the new Suicide Squad game whose trailer just dropped within the past week. If you watched the trailer then you know that the main roster for the game is Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. Today I will be talking about other characters I would like to see in the game in some way, shape, form, or fashion.

Before we get into that, I have three things that I want to talk about here because I don’t think there will be another time to say them:

1.) I love Deadshot, I love the inclusion of him in this game, I loved how he looked in the trailer, and I loved Will Smith playing him, however, the race change has me confused. In the previous Arkham games, Deadshot was Hispanic and now he isn’t. The only reason I bring this up is that by changing that character I now have a bad feeling that this game won’t be in the same universe as the Arkham games. I’m hoping for the sake of continuity they make the Suicide Squad Deadshot Floyd Lawton Jr. or a second Deadshot entirely.

2.) I’m slightly worried that the gameplay is going to be similar to that of Ultimate Alliance. I really don’t want that. I’m hoping that the game is played like the new Avengers game but run on the Arkham engine.

3.) This game needs to be really violent. I think that handicapping would do a lot more harm than good. The game is called SUICIDE squad. Parents should know what they’re buying right at the beginning. Take a chance and make it violent. Please.

Now, with all of that out of the way, let’s discuss characters I want to see in the game either as DLC or an unlockable. I’m going to start off by talking about characters that CAN’T be in the game. I’ve seen a couple of videos of people wanting certain characters in the game, so I would like to clarify why these characters cannot be included.

CHARACTERS WHO CAN’T BE INCLUDED:

1.) Poison Ivy: This is probably the character I’ve seen suggested the most. I’ll admit, she would be a really fun character to play as. You could fight with vines and maybe even rip people in half (I’m hoping this game is really violent), but that doesn’t change the fact that she is DEAD. *Spoilers* She died in Arkham Knight and unless she miraculously comes back, she will not be playable. I should note that if they did find a way to bring her back (which they very easily could) I would be ok with it.

2.) The Joker: He’s also very dead in this universe and I’m a lot less ok with bringing him back.

3.) Reverse Flash: I really really really don’t want a speedster in this game. I just don’t see it balancing well at all. I think that the Suicide Squad is a lot more fun with characters who aren’t too powerful and Reverse Flash is too powerful by far unless they nerf (gamer term) him, but if they do that it’ll just be dumb. It’ll feel like he’s not using all of his powers for whatever reason. I really don’t want them putting Reverse Flash in this game.

4.) Killer Croc: I’m going to go ahead and put a big ol’ disclaimer on this one. There is a very easy way to make Killer Croc being able to be in this game. First, let me tall you why he can’t be a playable character. It’s because he got mutilated into a big friggin’ dinosaur in Arkham Knight. It wouldn’t flow well nor would it be balanced. However, if they found a way to unmutate Croc then absolutely(!) he should be in this game.

5.) Solomon Grundy: I actually do think that Solomon could be a character in this game, but I would rather he not be. Solomon Grundy was included in Arkham Knight. He was kept as a prisoner (or a trap) to use against Batman. He was extremely big and he wasn’t really a villain. Just a poor soul. I don’t think his Arkhamverse storyline leads to the Suicide Squad.

6.) Mister Freeze: His story is done. He got to be with Nora in her final days and it can be assumed he quit his life of crime after she passed away. Even if he continued being a villain after her death, him getting caught and put in the Suicide Squad would really ruin his story arc

7.) Catwoman: I prefer Catwoman when she’s more good guyish than bad guyish. I’d rather not see her in this game.

That’s all for that section, next up is the actual article...well actually, I should put honorable mentions next, I don’t want to ruin my list by adding people who almost made the cur, so without further ado:

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

1.) Scarecrow: The reason I almost added him to my main list is because his storyline from Arkham Knight could be continued throughout this game, but I decided that he doesn’t really have an interesting fighting mechanic that would make him worth playing as.

2.) Bizzaro: Actually nevermind, he’s going on my main list.

3.) Sinestro: Sinestro would be SO F***ING COOL TO PLAY AS The only reason...THE ONLY REASON he isn’t on my main list is because it would be kind of dumb putting him in a regular human prison. Imagine being able to play as Sinestro in an open-world game, especially an Arkham game. His playstyle could be a mixture of martial arts and constructing offensive or defensive weapons with his ring. It’d be sweet.

4.) Gentleman Ghost: Do I really need to explain? He’s a gentlemanly ghost who shoots with an antique pistol. His attacks could be reaching inside of enemies and stopping their hearts or, you know...ghost things. The only reason he isn’t on my main list is because you can’t put a bomb in a ghost’s head. Duh.

5.) Clayface: Clayface would be an excellent addition to this game IF he hadn’t already been seen as overpowered in Arkham City. Don’t get me wrong, I loved that boss fight, but you can’t go and make him a PC after he’s been seen to be as powerful as he is. I’d be ok if they did Matt Hagen though. Maybe they could make Clayface 2 a little weaker.

6.) Giganta: I don’t think she would be a very balanced character, but wow. Imagine playing as Giganta.

7.) Owl-man: I really want Owl-man in this game, but his inclusion would open a box of worms that I don’t think Rocksteady would be able to handle in a satisfying way. Yet.

Now, ladies and gentlemen (ghosts), it’s the moment you all have been waiting for! My main list!!! Quick Disclaimer, it has around 20 characters on it so strap in. By the way, I’m starting from number 20 to add suspense.

MY MAIN LIST

A.K.A. CHARACTERS WHO SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE SUICIDE SQUAD GAME:

20.) Gorilla Grodd: Grodd would be a great character to have in the game. He could have fun banter with the rest of the squad and his combat could be a mixture of telekinesis, ray gun, and gorilla strength. The only reason he’s so low on this list is because I have a feeling he would play like the GTA V started Pokemon mod (Youtube it, then you’ll understand).

19.) Heatwave: Elemental characters are always a lot of fun. Heatwave could be great to play as if they made the burning reality violent. He’s above Gorilla Grodd because I don’t think they’d be many graphic issues playing as Heatwave, but he’s low on the list because, at the end of the day, a guy with a special gun really isn’t all that fun.

18.) Captain Cold: A guy with a special gun really isn’t all that fun. However, unlike Heatwave, Captain Cold could do a lot more than Heatwave. He could create different paths for the other players and I’m sure he’d have some cool combos, but the problem is that the reason I’m having trouble thinking of things he could do is that there really isn’t all that much.

17.) Man-bat: Imagine how sad it would be to have Man-bat in the Suicide Squad after Arkham Knight. His inclusion in this game means that instead of finding a cure, they put a bomb in his head and forced him to do assassination missions. Damn Feds. Not only does he have a tragic back story, but his playstyle would be awesome. He could do aerial attacks where he scoops enemies up and drops them from really high up, you could bite enemies heads off, and you have super bat strength! I’m actually kind of upset, maybe he should be higher on my list. No no, I did the right thing. Shoot.

16.) Firefly- Firefly is a combination of Man-bat and Heatwave. This character could be a lot of fun to play as, especially if they add the realistic fire gun that I mentioned earlier. I want to hear them scream! Sorry about that…

Disclaimer: The next few are kind of interchangeable, it’s really just a matter of preference.

15.) Sportsmaster: I know he’s kind of a lame villain, but I really think that if they did him right, then he could be a pretty versatile character. He loses points though for not having much other than his play style.

14.) Ocean Master: Tridents are cool and I love playing characters who have one. Plus he’d be fun to have in your Squad if you face off against Aquaman

13.) Bizarro: Bizarro would be a smart way to test out a PC Superman. You could nerf is powers enough to where he plays more like The Hulk or Superboy. Other than being interesting to have around, he doesn’t add much. I probably wouldn’t play him much, but his inclusion to the game would make the game much better.

12.) Azreal: I know that there were multiple endings to Azreal’s story in Arkham Knight, but you could get around that easily. Either way,  I think that by adding someone to the Squad who actually believes in the work they are doing would be an interesting twist. Plus it would be an interesting way to continue his story.

11.) KGBeast: I had a really hard time deciding whether or not I should put KGBeast over Azreal, but I did for two reasons. The first being, he’s an actual member of the Suicide Squad. The Second is because, in my head, I picture his playstyle to be very heavy on bone breaking. I think having a hand to hand specialist mixed with a brute would be a lot of fun to play as.

10.) Prometheus: I’ll admit, I don’t know much about this character, but with what I do know, he’d have interesting story beats and his playstyle would be unique. Especially if they use his big ass sword.

9.) Cheetah: I personally wouldn’t play as Cheetah very often, but I absolutely understand the people who would. She’d be a very fun, fast pace, acrobatic character to play as. I totally get it. I just don’t really care for her character.

8.) Mad Hatter: I know this one seems really weird, but hear me out. In the Arkham Games, The Mad Hatter is a grimmy and psychotic villain. In my mind, you could play him as a stealth character who sneaks up on enemies, mind controls them, and then the character plays as the person they’re mind-controlling. I know it’s different, but I do think it would be something new that hasn’t been done before. Also, when he isn’t in stealth you can give him a rusty old revolver, and when he fights hand to hand he could fight dirty by throwing sand in people’s eyes or kicking them in the testicles. See? You’re into it, aren’t you?

7.) Bronze Tiger: You probably assumed that Bronze Tiger would be on this list. As the original leader of the Suicide Squad, he deserves to be top 10. His playstyle would be *chefs kiss* so fluid. Especially if he was being played by someone who was good at combos. In my mind, you can also choose if you play with claws or fist. Heck, let’s say when you play as Bronze Tiger you can choose any martial arts weapons.

6.) Deathstroke: Deathstroke is a character I love so dearly, but his portrayal in the Arkham games comes off as snarky and whiney. I don’t mind some snark, but I do mind some whine. He’d be a lot of fun to play as. That’s all I can say for this version of Deathstroke. I’m putting him high on this list in the hopes Rocksteady do him right.

5.) Bane: When Arkham Knight takes place, Bane goes back to Santa Prisca to find himself and get off the venom. I actually think it would be fun if Bane led the team instead of Rick Flagg. That being said, he’d still be fun to have around if he wasn’t, but making Bane the leader would be an interesting way for his story to go in.

4.) Killer Frost: I love elemental characters in anything, but I hate elemental guns. What’s the solution to that? Killer Frost. I feel like she would be insanely fun to play as. She’d have a mixture of martial arts and powers for us to play with. Absolutely worth top 5

3.) Black Manta: I love Black Manta. As the main adversary to Aquaman, he’d be a great addition to a game about killing the Justice League. He’d have laser beams, swords, and martial arts for us to play with, plus he looks really cool.

2.) Black Adam: In a game where you have to fight superman, it goes without saying that you’ll need some heavy hitters. Black Adam can deliver and unlike Bizarro, he’d actually have an interesting story and motivations of his own. Black Adam would be an absolute blast to play as.

1.) The Red Hood: I know I know, this one is a little different, but honestly, I love it. Just because Jason Todd decided not to be a terrorist anymore doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a terrorist. I don’t care how, but because of the things he did during Arkham Knight, he gets arrested and is forced to join the suicide squad. By having him in the game, it unlocks the past and future of the character we all want to know more about in this universe.

What did you think of my list? I know that some of the descriptions are pretty short. That’s mostly because this was a long article anyway and that gameplay mechanics are easier to talk about than to write about, but I hope you enjoyed reading. Comment what you thought, tell us who you want to add in this game, and what do think of the game as a whole, so far? See you next time on The Cheat Code Cafe!
