Star Wars: The Phantom Releases
As anyone who hasn’t been living in a Bacta tank for the last five years would know, Star Wars is now more popular than ever. With shows like The Mandalorian only boosting its popularity. Recently Disney has released to the public the shows that they have put in development. This article is going to discuss what these shows may be about.
Disclaimer: We will also be discussing this topic on our podcast Too Opinionated. There is a good chance that some of my opinions will change between now and then, so it may be best to read this then listen to the upcoming episode in order to get the full effect of my thoughts.
Let’s get into it!
The first thing I noticed is that most of these shows are going to be set in-between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens along with the 19 years between The Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. I like these two time periods, but I would personally prefer more shows be scattered throughout the timeline than in one clump, but I assume they do it like this so the characters can go between shows, which isn’t really a bad thing. I’m going to be talking about these shows in order of appearance based on the release slate that Disney...uh...released. This means the first show I’ll be writing about is going to be:
Rangers of the New Republic- This show will be set in the time period between Jedi and Awakens. That’s pretty much all of the official things we know about this show. I personally think that this show is going to be one of two things. It’s either going to be a show about old Captain Rex or a show about Bill Burr’s character from the Mandalorian. I would prefer it to be Rex, but I like Burr’s character. I also suppose this show could be about Cobb Vanth. That’d be dope.
Ahsoka- Ahsoka is a very interesting character. She may actually be one of the most important characters in all of Star Wars, so it’s no surprise that she will be getting her own show. This show is also going to be set in The Mandolorian time. I believe that this show is going to be about Ahsoka hunting down Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Andor- I’m actually pretty excited about this one. This is the Cassian Andor solo series. It’s set before Rogue One and I believe this is going to be a Star Wars spy show. The thing I’m most excited about for this one is it’ll give more heart to the Rebel Alliance. There isn’t really any reason to like them other than you’re told that you’re supposed to. It will be interesting to see a series focusing on the terrible things the good guys had to do in order to do the right thing.
Obi-Wan Kenobi- I can’t even pretend like this series isn’t the one I’m most excited for. Obi-Wan is my favorite Star Wars characters. There are a thousand and one things that you could do with this character, but I think I have an idea of the route this will take. This series will be about Kenobi losing his faith. He’s going to leave Luke and Tatooine behind and try to make a new life for himself, but of course he’ll realize that it’s his duty to protect Luke, putting him right back on Tatooine, but this time he keeps the faith.
Bad Batch- I honestly can’t believe that this one got a show. Out of everything they could’ve done, why choose the Bad Batch. I think they are going to become Imperials and my bet is that they will be the first team of elite troopers for the Empire. The interesting thing about this show will be that they join the Empire willingly and not because of a chip in their head. I think there is a good chance they will be Inquisitor Troopers.
Visions-Out of all the shows that Disney put into production, this one is my least favorite. It’s my least favorite for two reasons. First being I don’t know what it’ll be about and the second being that this show will be the first Anime installment in Star Wars. I know a lot of people enjoy Anime, but I would rather have another cartoon. I have three guesses on what this show is going to be about. The show is going to be about a Jedi council member having visions of the future, an ancient Jedi looking into the future, or it’ll be about those angelic creature who have visions. I sort of hope that it’ll be an ancient Jedi. I think it will be most likely that it’ll be a Jedi prophet, like the ones who wrote the protheses.
Lando-I think everybody agrees that Billy Dee Williams playing the flamboyant Lando Calrissian is a national treasure, however he’s a character I don’t really think about often. This show is going to take place before A New Hope and will star Donald Glover. The only thing I really want for this show is to be sort of like How I Met Your Mother. I want every episode to star out with a narration from Billy Dee, and the entire show is about him telling about his old adventures. Oh and I also think this show is going to be a continuation of the cliff hanger in Solo.
The Acolyte- This show stuck out the most to me. At first I thought that maybe they were bringing back Starkiller, then I learned that this show will be set in the time of the High Republic. I think there is a couple of ways that this show could go. I think they will either bring back Starkiller, but this time he’s a different Siths apprentice, it’s going to be about Revan, or it’s going to be a Palpatine prequel. Personally I think it will be a Palpatine Prequel.
A Droid Story-I’m not necessarily excited for this show, however I do think it’ll be fun and light hearted. Obviously it was meant for a younger audience, and that’s ok. The show is going to be about R2-D2 and C-3PO training a newer droid.
Rogue Squadron- I think that this show is going to be about the New Republic trying to gain control over the Outer Rim, also I have a feeling that this show is going to be about the X-Wing pilots that we recently saw at the beginning of season two of The Mandalorian.
Those are my theories on what’s to come to Star Wars, but I would like to hear your theories. Do you agree with mine? Tell me about it!
